Federal Paid Family Leave May Be Coming

Senator Edward Kennedy, Chairman of the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, plans to introduce a paid family leave program, known as the Healthy Families Act.
The Act would:
apply to employers with 15 or more employees;
cover all full-time employees;
cover part-time employees on a pro-rated basis.
require employers to provide seven paid sick days per year;
permit employees to use their paid days-off to care for themselves (such as for attending doctor’s appointments or undergoing preventive diagnostic care) or ill family members; and
